We also have my Mum in law, who lives 100 miles away. We take turns with my SiL (100 miles in the other direction) to support her when she needs us.
It's hard due to the distance, but we manage.
It is hardest when Mil's appointments clash timewise with my Mum's, and we need to be at both.
Also, with me being Autistic (and I suspect my Mum is too), I couldn't manage anywhere near as well without my wife's support, that really makes a difference.

@Maker_of_Things @naturepunk I lost both my parents as a teen, which was terrible, but when a friend became her mum’s admin person & frequent visitor, I started feeling guilty. It seems to me that the main issue is that the care/oversight role often seems to fall heavily on one person, with others opting out. And of course in families with only one or two adult children, which has been the norm for a while now…
