@whitequark My list of (close enough to be) flawless OSS applications includes (but is not limited to): - KeePassXC - Notepad++ - vim (RIP Bram Moolenaar 😔) - OBS Studio - OpenRCT2 - Krita - FreeCAD - KiCAD - Python. *Especially* Python.

@whitequark it's really cool because it makes you feel good too. just finding the person who wrote the software and sending them an email and just knowing you probably made their day better is Real Nice.

@whitequark hell, I'd like a "thank the open source developers whose tools *mostly* work for you" day because most issues in the software I love are a lack of funding/time/help

@whitequark Thanksgiving but good. Instead of turkey & your relatives' shitty political ideas, you cook spherical chicken in a frictionless vacuum & you donate money to open source developers.

@whitequark the paradox is that the better the tool is, the more invisible the developer becomes, flawless tools don't get issues often

@whitequark And that day should come with recognition and financial awards for the top 10 impactful contributors from the Nobel committee.
