Stamp doodle logo for the Conradh na Gaeilge AthGhaelú campaign "to encourage people to use Irish placenames instead of English placenames in all aspects of life." They've also created a Gealltanas Logainmneacha "to encourage individuals and groups to use Irish-only placenames" #Art #MastoArt #MastoDaoine #Ireland #Gaeilge

@Ciaraioch@mastodon.ie I like the idea, but for it to work people need to know how to pronounce the placenames around them. And I think people struggle with Irish phonetics as its not taught. It would be a good idea for a series by one of the Irish speaking youtubers I think.

@Ciaraioch@mastodon.ie GRMA! I'm not Irish myself, but I'm learning, and I love to be able to understand the signs or the train announcements already :gphn_heart_cute: Now I have one more excuse to include a little bit more of Gaelige in my daily life :3

@Ciaraioch@mastodon.ie Go hálainn! It's a shame that it's almost impossible to use an Irish county name in a postal address online these days, since you have to select it from a list of English only options. Some websites even replace your address with the English version as soon as you enter an Eircode 😭

@Ciaraioch@mastodon.ie Great cause. I also like how you used the buailte "dot of lenition” rather than the h. Looks better that way.

  • @Ciaraioch@mastodon.ie Ooh, if we could copy that in Scotland, to use Gàidhlig only place names, we could see if we could get the heads of those Unionists who oppose bilingual road signs to actually explode!

@Ciaraioch@mastodon.ie Except for Bundle of Sticks. Brosna isn't anywhere near as much fun to say.
