@Cheeseness idk. if fiction changed anything we'd be in a very different place r/n. but it's a projective oracle. you find in it whatever you're looking for.

@lritter Undeniably, fiction has influenced my personal outlooks, but if it wasn't clear, my point was that I don't know if I could enjoy something new with that premise today.

@lritter @Cheeseness I agree, this whole "it is US civil war dogwhistle, kinda" viewpoint is very overblown, and very US-centric... And, to a non-US person, very self-absorbed. The world is bigger than the USA, and there have been many more oppressive regimes and resistance movements throughout the history of our planet. And if someone reads "we'll rise again" as "south will rise again", then that's apparently what they *want* to get out of it.
