@hugh I have a list of brilliant veggie restaurants. TeamLabs are amazing if you like huge weird art installations. Hiroshima and Miyajima are incredible. The island is a short ferry ride away.

@hugh Obviously dependent on where you're staying, but if you get the chance, I'd recommend going to Nara for a little day trip. Temples, forests and deer - what more could you want? Meiji-jingu in Tokyo, near Harajuku in Tokyo is as wonderful as it is surreal. It's a gorgeous forest with a Shinto shrine right in the middle of a bustling metropolis, which to me at least felt bizarre, but entirely rad. I'm biased of course, but I *love* Osaka. Doguyasuji is a great little corridor for souvenirs and awesome Japanese culinary culture, and Mt. Inunaki is mega peaceful hike. Though perhaps a little touristy, Osaka Kaiyukan aquarium is well worth a visit. Kobe, just across the water from where I used to live, is pretty neat, too. Mt. Rokko is a highlight - it's not too bad hiking to the top, and you can get the cable car down for the views (or up, if you feel so inclined), which is a lot of fun. Mega excited for you!! ☺️

@hugh It may sound obvious, but make sure you try the Shinkansen bullet trains. They’re incredible and make getting around the country really easy. I can also recommend trying some of the scenic railways around the country - travelling slow through rice fields was the standout surprise of our trip, and such a vibe. We did the Wakayama Railway, which is world famous for its line of cat station masters. We also used Ninja Food Tours in two cities to get to know the local cuisine.

@hugh :ablobcatbongo: all the railway museums the respective JR railway museums are generally pretty decent (Tokyo/Omiya, Nagoya, Kyoto); if you are near any of the three cities you should try go there and enjoy
