@zuthal this reminded me of a small experiment I did a while back: https://mastodon.derg.nz/@anthropy/111278675416627722 If you stand on your toes, optionally close your eyes, and imagine moving a (heavy) tail behind you, it seems ~80% of people can feel their balance shift (though very small sample size)
