@paige Seems like the Liberals had plenty of time to get something built if it had been a priority. One can worry about policy lurch when governing parties change, but we'll probably have had at least 14 years of Liberals in power before another party takes over.

@paige Flashbacks to Rishi Sunak suddenly cancelling the latter stages of HS2 because a by-election in Hillingdon & Uxbridge was won on a backlash to Sadiq Kahn’s ULEZ scheme. More than a decade of careful cross-party collaboration and planning thrown away for nothing other than an “anti-woke” culture war gesture. You’re right, these projects can go up in smoke in seconds even if there’s shovels in the ground and broad consensus.
