Last week, during our traditional Easter family reunion, I took my father&#39;s old Peugeot touring bike from the basement and gave it a quick check-up. This was the first time it&#39;s been used in at least 35 years. I believe it still has the original tires, chain and sprocket. Indexed shifters have come a long way since the 1980s: it&#39;s not for nothing that Shimano SIS can be switched to non-indexed. Good enough for the occasional 10km ride downtown and back. #cycling #bikeTooter #bikerepair

@tg9541 I used to love those old Peugeot touring machines. I was seriously looking at getting one sometime in the mid 1970s, but never did. I loved those front racks The only thing I'd be careful about is the the tyres - they make look ok but if the casing is starting to perish they could fail unexpectedly! Non-index gearing is how we rolled for decades! Enjoy it

@tg9541 and as well as functioning fine, it still looks good too. I quite like friction shifting in a stately progress, no hills context.

@tg9541 my father had also such a beauty And I was able to ride it my own a couple of years ago. Unfortunately one day a Land Rover Defender crossed my way and the frame of the blue pearle broke. I had to let her go.

@tg9541 When we unpacked Peugeot bikes to build in the shop (this was in the 1980s) they came wrapped in a big plastic bag that mechanics referred to as "the placenta"
