A couple of our DnD group have started to complain about how hard the rules are for them to keep track of now. Aging out of games really sucks. Are there any good board games you've played that could accomodate 7 people? It is the number that is the big issue. I've seen Gloomhaven or HeroQuest, but those are 4 or 5 max. Hubby and I are stuck coaching them all the time now which is not fun. But we still want a reason to gather regularly and play. Any suggestions from #DnD and #TTRPG folks?

@gamerlady but it is really the rules that are the problem: Have you tried easier /rules light games? Beyond the wall, mörk borg, tiny d6 or something like that?

@gamerlady Vantage can take up to 6 players and is an open-world board game. I'd actually recommend that you try a rules-lite RPG. There are so many, and with a table of experienced players, you don't need the mechanical geegaws of more complicated systems to have a great game. No one forgets the rules of Cairn or Mork Borg or Cthulhu Dark, etc. You just play. And there are games for every taste. It's still a lot of players for any RPG, but you can easily adjust things for the group.

@gamerlady how about giving Mouseritter a try? It's one of the most accessible OSR games out there for D&D players, and it has tons of great adventures available. Other options you could look at are Everspark by @capacle or Land of Eem. It really depends on what parts of D&D your group tends to enjoy most.

  • @gamerlady not exactly your question but for folks who love D&D, gotten older, want an easier rule set, but classic 70s feel, consider DCC TTRPG by Goodman Games

@gamerlady there is an entire galaxy of rules-light games that fit the same classic fantasy mold of D&D-- the best example in my opinion is Cairn, which is available in its entirety for free https://cairnrpg.com/

@gamerlady If the main focus of your games is combat simulation, then it's gonna be hard to find a replacement for 7 people. I'd look up/prepare more visual aids to keept track if rules in #DnD #5E In my aging playgroups, the focus has shifted to telling great stories and having fun without tracking every miniscule tactical aspect of the game. Thus, we switched to narrative games like #DungeonWorld or FATE.

@gamerlady Besides these boardgames perhaps you may be interested in some light rules rpg games: https://viejaescuela.nogarung.com/vieja-escuela-the-role-playing-game/ https://grapasymapas.com/pulp#english
