The neat thing about the manosphere is that they see manliness as this unbroken line of identity going back to the ice age. But much of the manliness that they espouse is less than 100 years old, and a good bit of it is probably less than 50 years old. Hilariously, we have historical books that were written by men about how to be manly across hundreds of years. And they’re all COMPLETELY different, even within the same culture. So yeah, manliness is whatever makes you feel manly, and that can be whatever you would like 💘

@robinhood@yiff.life and really it could just boilt down to «everything I do is manly because I am a man», but this seems to be a difficult concept to grasp to some.

@robinhood@yiff.life That's true of most things... ethnicity, skin color, religion, facial hair, clothing styles, money... all convenient groupings created by humans for no particular reason beyond convenience or political effect/affect

@robinhood@yiff.life If a person knows that they are a man, because that's the only defining factor that can reasonably be used (self-knowledge), then by default anything that person does can be defined as manly. See how easy that was?

@robinhood@yiff.life My favourite example of this is the famous portrait of Louis XIV in tights and high heels. (As I understand it, high heels at that time were a military thing — cavalry. So giving the impression he was just off the battlefield, no time for trivialities.)
