Find two billion lire in his late uncle's safe deposit box, but he can’t convert them to euros: the trick of an inheritance worth one million.
Two billion lire hidden in a safe deposit box. A sum that, converted at the old official exchange rate, is worth over one million euros today. It's the unexpected inheritance discovered by a 51-year-old man after the death of his uncle. Shame that this treasure, at least for the moment, is unusable.
The protagonist of the story, Stefano, originally from Vicenza but residing in Cuneo, was handling the estate paperwork for his late maternal uncle, who died without a wife or children, when he went to the bank where the relative kept a safe deposit box. Once opened, the surprise: banknotes in lire of various denominations totaling over two billion.
Translated into euros according to the irrevocable exchange rate of 1 euro every 1,936.27 lire, this means more than one million euros. But those banknotes cannot be brought to the counter and exchanged. The bank to which Stefano turned has indeed referred the matter to the Bank of Italy.
And here the story becomes complicated. Lire ceased to have legal currency on February 28, 2002, but it was possible to convert them into euros for another ten years. The original term was fixed at February 28, 2012. According to the indications currently published by the Bank of Italy itself, conversion is no longer possible, except in very particular cases: one must be able to prove that a conversion request was already submitted between December 6, 2011 and February 28, 2012 and that the related right was subsequently preserved by suspending its prescription.
Conditions that make transforming the treasure found in the safe deposit box into usable money anything but simple. The 51-year-old does not seem intent on giving up and has turned to an association to evaluate possible legal avenues. For now, Stefano is heir to over two billion lire, but not one million euros.

Sarebbe stata poi la stessa bambina a inviare tutto all’adescatore.

He was posing as a 17-year-old to lure girls and get them to send him photos and videos: a 36-year-old is under house arrest.
I had been chatting on the social network Snapchat with someone I believed to be a 17-year-old from Milan. He promised to marry me once he reached the age of majority, but behind that young Milanese man was a 36-year-old from Vicenza. The investigation was launched after a complaint was filed by the parents of the minor, a girl of just 11 years old, who found a chat with photos and self-produced pedophilic material in her daughter’s phone.
The investigation, conducted by the operational section of Rimini and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bologna, revealed how the 36-year-old, living with his parents, had managed to gain the trust of the 11-year-old. The chats showed how the man had tried to establish a romantic relationship with the girl, never requesting to meet in person, and then asked for intimate photos and videos. It was the girl herself who then sent everything to the manipulator.
The Postal Police identified the man and proceeded with a computer search on his devices, which led to the seizure of the investigated’s phone: it was from his mobile phone that the story of the unhealthy relationship between the man and the 11-year-old victim lured, but it also confirmed further conversations, born with the same purpose, with other minors in different areas of Italy. Thanks to all the evidence collected, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bologna obtained an order for precautionary custody from the judge for preliminary investigations.
