Garmin, Starva and a like use user contributed data which they sell as part of their paid scubscriptions. This really annoys me. I want to avoid doing the same with #VertMatch Firstly, I want to keep the Climb Database freely available to everyine. Forever (assuming I can find ways to cover server costs). Secondly, I'm setting up a reward system that automatically gathers poinst to users from every contribution. A certain level automatically converts into a free premium month.

I quite like the racing history card on #VertMatch It gives a nice overview of past suffering and enjoyment. Also, it put the Piztal course in context. #VertMatch race comparison data has been super useful in this race preparation window. Looks like I'm up about 20% in training and climbing training vs. ZUT prep. #trailrunning

Over the last week-or-so, I've been working to import public trail data to #VertMatch The process is now complete for countries that have data easily available. Public trail data was combined to avialable high resolution elevation data and then ran through the climb analyser algorithm which identified and categorised climbs Climbs are here: https://vertmatch.run/find-a-climb Here are some stats and more details what areas the data now covers. I'm working to expand the country coverage #trailrunning

The first batch of climbs from national trail networks are now live on #VertMatch In this batch Switzerland: 12,477 France: 723 Great Britain: 48 Finland: 13 Total 13,261 Next batch will be Bavaria. Then looking for more sources next.

I'm pretty excited about the next #VertMatch update. I found public sources that allow me to import data to the climb database to cover European terrain very well without compromiseing the quality. All public government sources with CC lisence. I'll keep everythign open and available to everyone but just in a format that should be very useful for #trailrunning Open Gvernment data FTW!

I think I'll have to change the plan for monetising #VertMatch My original idea was to make the training feature eventually a paid feature. But looking at how many traiing apps have recently come online, that really feels like the wrong approach. I also do not want to make the climb database paywalled. Afteral it is built together with the community, community should maintain full access to it.

Update on VertMatch & Hiking activies. Hiking and #trailrunning place a very similar load to your body on up hills. In fact, most hills are walked up on the trails anyways. So it makes sense to make sure hiking activities count when training. #VertMatch now counts your #hiking activities towards your training TEP calculations. https://vertmatch.run/whats-new

I just couldn't make myself go out to do hill reps so I asked #VertMatch to create a coresponding indoor bike workout for me. I really like this feature. Something is better than nothing, when training. This lowers the friction. I don't need to think about the session structure, I automatically get one that helps me today. #running #cycling
