Friends and family, all appear to be OK. Telephone lines are down (or they just don't reply to my texts). #TexasFlood #TXWx https://youtu.be/lPs6Hv3nzLw?si=IucTFBpJOfEd8LUf

#SevereWeather #PTC #TXwx #NCwx #LAwx From North Carolina’s Weather Authority on FB: Tropical Update: We have our first cone of the 2026 season this morning the National Hurricane Center has designated Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 ( what is a PTC a developing weather disturbance that has not yet officially become a tropical depression or tropical storm, but poses a threat of bringing tropical storm or hurricane conditions to land within 72 hours). It is currently located over southwestern Texas, but it is expected to move into the Northern Gulf over the next 24 hours and could briefly reach Tropical Storm status as Tropical Storm Arthur. The main concern is dangerous, life-threatening Flash Flooding from heavy rainfall along the Mid to Upper Texas Coast, through much of Louisiana, the central and southern portions of Mississippi and Alabama, and the far western portion of the Florida Panhandle over the next few days. Little to no wind is expected, but a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the northwestern Gulf Coast from Sargent, Texas to Morgan City, Louisiana. The National Hurricane Center says, "Potentially life-threatening flash and urban flooding is possible across the Texas coast eastward into central Mississippi through southwest Louisiana, with isolated areas of significant river flooding possible across the Texas Coast and Louisiana." The remains of the system could bring some moisture on Friday into the SE US from GA/FL up to South Carolina, and potentially some moisture here into NC, but we are still looking at the data. At the very least, there could be increased storm chances on Friday. I'll have more over the next day or so. -Ethan

Interesting, the Texas Department of State Health Services had put in a new requirement (post Camp Mystic) that all youth camps have fiber optic Internet service. (being challenged in court) "...The Texas Department of State Health Services has reached an agreement with a group of youth camp operators regarding legal requirements that all camps licensed by DSHS maintain fiber optic internet service. Under the agreement, camps that maintain a redundant, broadband internet service will not face potential license denial or revocation for not having fiber service during the 2026 camping season, as long as they meet all other safety requirements...." https://www.dshs.texas.gov/news-alerts/dshs-reaches-agreement-fiber-optic-requirement-youth-camps #TXwx #disasters #CampMystic

I have a headache, and a shattered windowshield, just reading this story about this hail. Along the roadside in the Texas Panhandle, a record-large hailstone was discovered at a whopping 7.1 inches in diameter h/t @MsMerope@sfba.social https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/new-texas-hailstone-record-confirmed-noaa-and-partners #hail #Txwx
