Avatar is a caricature drawing of a bearded man with glasses. Header is an action photo of me in 2018 at the start of Race Around the Netherlands in the rain on the first of very few climbs (near Amerongen) waving to the camera.

Watched the ‘Crocodile’ episode of Black Mirror for the first time last night. It was broadcast in the year that cyclist Tony Parsons was killed (after a hit and run) by two drunk game keepers who covered things up until they didn’t. His bicycle was never found although a key witness desperately tried to find it… in a black comic fugue state.
If you’ve watched the episode and the Netflix doc about the Parsons case the parallels are VERY spooky. The central characters of both stories have divergent but related arcs (due their different values). At the time of the Black Mirror broadcast in 2017 and until 2020 Parsons was just a missing person…
Obviously it hits harder if you are an often solo cyclist like me. If I’m killed on the road in a hit and run I hope someone does the right thing because justice is important. But as I have learnt, dishonesty and selfishness are very common in humans. We are all capable of dreadful things, some of which start with a single wrong decision. And a single right decision can make all the difference.
