"Microsoft has introduced new limits to how much its engineers can spend on AI tools at work and told employees that maximizing AI use internally is not the company’s goal. This makes Microsoft one of the last major companies to rein in its employees’ expensive AI use. Scaling back maximalist AI use, or what some companies have called “tokenmaxxing,” is a trend we’ve covered in recent months as the price for using AI has increased while not always delivering commensurate productivity gains. “As we accelerate our use of GitHub Copilot to deliver on our goals, we all need to be aware of how we consume tokens,” Jay Parikh, an executive vice president at Microsoft said in an email to Microsoft employees. GitHub is owned by Microsoft, and GitHub Copilot is an AI coding tool. “Tokenmaxxing is not what we are optimizing for. I want all of us focused on maximizing outcomes that move the needle for our customers and our business.” “As such, we are updating our internal guidance and managing token spend with the same discipline we apply to every other critical resource,” Parikh said in the email." https://www.404media.co/microsoft-tells-engineers-tokenmaxxing-is-not-what-we-are-optimizing-for/ #AI #GenerativeAI #LLMs #Microsoft #BigTech #TokenMaxxing #Copilot

Workplaces look for cheaper #AI as ‘#tokenmaxxing’ fades as a corporate fad Bain & Company management consultants said many of big businesses firm advises have been taking a closer look at returns on their AI investments. Those who still favor racking up as many #tokens as possible are having a field day with new open-source models from #China's startups like Moonshot’s Kimi or Zhipu’s GLM, which nearly match the capabilities of top U.S. models at a fraction of the price. https://apnews.com/article/ai-token-openai-anthropic-corporate-31bb80ac1cd7862d05f6397177d826b1

I guess - people should use #AI with some context, understanding and use them not as an alternative to human workers, but as a tool, when given to capable humans who make right choices, increases the productivity and profit of the institutions. So, this is the first post with the tag : #wtfAI Need your genuine opinion on what you people think about AI. I just need to know about it's impact and popularity in current #society. 1) Is AI actually necessary for humans? We were already good before AI? Is it? 2) AI should be controlled and be put to use for only authorised people - because anyone with a bad intent can do some #TokenMaxxing - AI used as service for cyberattacks. 3) Other unanswered questions that you might have. (Like AI in #biotechnology) This is just for gathering opinions.
