I've always liked Gappa. But it is kind of a mid kaiju movie. Nothing wrong with it (aside from the obvious brownface...). Just not much that stands out. Kaiju family is cool, but we already have Gorgo. The sets the monsters are on are good and feel big but none of them are stunning (maybe the cave?). It's fine. Gappa is a fine kaiju movie.

Gappa was Nikkatsu's first and only kaiju movie for near 50 years. Eventually they finianced a handful of kaiju movies like Death Kappa and live action Attach on Titan movies.

The cave and this mountainside set both feel really big for the adult Gappa. Maybe it's just the filming but it's neat to have what feels like bigger than normal kaiju sets.
