#TheCrux so well said @daedalus@eigenmagic.net 👏😆 "*Please leave me behind* I am perplexed by the notion of being “left behind”. It comes, I suppose, from the idea that the tech industry is new and modern and that being new and modern is somehow inherently good despite all available evidence to the contrary. But look around. I'm not thrilled about [...] having to show government ID to use a website in the UK because social media companies are somehow immune to competition and privacy law. Or the stochastic plagiarism machines getting shoved into everything, over everything, and generally getting in the way while I am trying to do something they keep trying to fuck up. The thing about being left behind is that it implies that you will actually, you know, leave. I just don't see any of the tedious blowhards threatening to leave me behind actually going anywhere. They seem to be staying quite close by, and being rather noisy and obnoxious about it the whole time. So noisy and obnoxious, in fact, that the prospect of going anywhere that they might also remain nearby isn't nearly as big a selling point as they seem to imagine. I've had a good think about it, and I've decided that actually I would quite like to be left behind if there's a chance that you people will fuck off to somewhere else and leave me alone. I just wish you’d get on with it instead of staying here talking about it so very much. I have stuff to do."
