In March I purchased 5 female-sexed chicks, looking very forward to having 5 new egg layers. As this one grew, I began to worry, trying to convince myself that she is just a particularly stunning hen.
This morning at sunrise we were awakened by a feeble, first attempt at cock-a-doodle-doo; missing a few syllables, but unmistakable.
Rats! “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch” or something like that.
