A Canadian, and then an Albertan, on Treaty 6 lands. I will defend Canada from both foreign and domestic enemies. I urge fellow Gen X to also stand up now so that fewer of our youth are needed in our civilian defense force. I toot too much about the apparent collapse of democracy because we are collectively failing to stop fascism in its tracks. Fair Warning: Sharp commentary! If you're conservative or religious you should probably block me, my patience is now a matter of history. Anon.

"Let's keep our land glorious and free."
Why do I sing Let's instead of God?
It's not because lots of us don't believe in gods.
It's not because many of us believe in different gods.
It's because none of us should expect any god to do something that we ought to be doing ourselves.
So, let's keep our land glorious and free.

The Woman Who Inspired 'O Canada'
On June 24, 1880, 'O Canada' was first performed at the Congrès national des Canadiens-Français in Quebec City. The French lyrics by Adolphe-Basile Routhier were inspired by his wife, who reportedly exclaimed "O Canada! Mon pays, mes amours!" upon seeing a beautiful Canadian landscape. The song became the official national anthem only in 1980. 🎵
