My children asked me if there was anywhere nearby where we could play.
Then they said excitedly,
"Come on, Mummy, come on! We want you to take us somewhere to play, or even to the beach to swim!"
I looked at them, unable to answer, because there was nowhere safe. Bombings and attacks were everywhere. Just a few days earlier, there had been a bombing at a beach resort, and many innocent people had been killed.
But I didn't tell them. They had suffered enough from fear, bombings, deprivation, and having their childhoods stolen. I said, "I'll take you in a few days. I promise I'll make your little hearts happy." I'm sure of one thing: I will, and always will, do everything I can for my children.
