A few days ago I was talking to #LoveOfMyLife about my childhood in Turkey, in that forgotten village somewhere in Central Anatolia. What struck me most was that I never learned any prejudice in those days - I mean prejudice against group of people. Once every year a group of nomads would come to our village with their tents, they were called "çingene", which is translated as "gypsy". And you know what? We'd look forward to their visit, because these were people who knew tons of crafts that our people didn't know. The villagers had their copper-ware and they'd prepare all their copper-ware for the visit by these people to get them tinned. Also, we'd get a lot of our tools repaired, and such. Those people would stay for a month or so, and then leave. I never heard anyone in our village to speak about them in any other way than with respect and admiration (for their craftpersonship). Similarly, with tons of other topics, I have never heard a prejudice, maybe astonishment ("wow!! Bülent Ersoy* had a bottom surgery? That is possible? And now she has lady-parts down there? Amazing..."). This goes on and on and on.and no racism either, nothing, ... The other thing I never heard is that sex can only be het: there was never any notion of restriction on having sex. Marriages was a different matter, because marriage was mostly planned, organized and executed as a practical matter, an economic need as to say, to produce offspring and create a larger family. But sex? Well, you have sex with whoever you want as long as you both agree to it - that was always my understanding. And thus, having my first sexual interaction with boys was just a normal thing, even if I was read as boy myself. There was nothing to it, it was probably even natural because we spent so much time together with other boys during summer (long story, will tell another time). And in winter? Well, let's say that my "clique" consisted of me, two other male friends and two female friends. One of the female friends and one of the male friends were the strongest in our clique... The first real prejudice against a group of people I experienced was when I came to Germany, and realized (and was sometimes told) that I am a "Kanacke", and should go back to where I came from. And the first restriction on sexuality ... well, yes, you guessed it, it was in Germany ... Weird, really, really weird... *: Bülent Ersoy is a famous singer and she was the first trans person "in my life", as in she was rhe first person ever through whom I came to know about trans people: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BClent_Ersoy Edit: a few typos

Replying to @sashag@anarres.family
@sashag@anarres.family I never celbrated my birthday because "why would I celebrate a random day when I left tthe birth canal". Then I read somewhere: "people who never celebrate their birthday have been disappointed so much that they just son't it anymore as they expect to happen it again and again, so they just don't" (I am paraphrasing, but not really good at it either) and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Since then I try to but unfortunately it is true, people really disappoint too much on that occasion (I mean #LoveOfMyLife completely forgot my birthday this year until she was reminded of it two days later) From now on, I will celebrate, but for myself only. Yeah, please, do celebrate, just for yourself.
