AGI – Hundreds of flights in the United States were forced to delay take-off due to a technical issue affecting the East Coast. The airports affected were JFK, Newark, LaGuardia and Westchester County in New York, Logan International Airport in Boston, Philadelphia International Airport and Teterboro in New Jersey.
Technical Problem in Radar Center
The technical problem occurred at the Philadelphia Terminal Radar Approach Control, the federal system that manages arrivals and departures on the East Coast. “A team of workers working on Amtrak repairs accidentally cut an optical fiber cable in New Jersey, causing a communications outage and forcing federal authorities to suspend flights in the Northeast,” Transport Secretary Sean Duffy explained on X.
“This incident – he added - further highlights the need to continue funding upgrades for outdated infrastructure and avoid future disruptions like this.”
