A message from KBOO Portland Community Radio KBOO needs your support! KBOO is a beacon in the wasteland of commercial media. Every day, your support makes possible local journalism and independent news reporting, local music and arts programming, free media training, youth programming, and a platform for communities that are too often ignored by mainstream media. KBOO doesn't answer to corporate owners or shareholders. We answer to our members, volunteers, and the communities we serve. This year, however, KBOO faces one of the greatest financial challenges in our history. The dissolution of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting resulted in the loss of approximately $110,000—about 14% of KBOO's FY26 operating budget. While our volunteers, staff, members, and Board of Directors have worked tirelessly to reduce that gap, we still need to raise approximately $100,000 by September 30th, 2026 to fully fund this year's operating budget. This isn't simply about balancing a budget. It's about preserving everything our community depends on. If KBOO cannot close this funding gap, next year's operating budget will almost certainly need to shrink. That would mean fewer resources for local programming, community outreach, training opportunities, and the dedicated staff who make KBOO possible. It could also reduce the operating reserves that help keep KBOO financially stable during uncertain times. Our goal is simple: close the funding gap—not reduce KBOO's service to the community.
