#Children have borne the brunt of the #infections, making up >70% of confirmed cases. >80 children & adolescents have been hospitalized this year for complications like #pneumonia, which leaves patients gasping for air, & #brain swelling, which can cause lasting damage, including #blindness, #deafness & intellectual #disabilities. "#Measles doesn't just make you miserable for a week or two. It infects immune cells, including the long-lived memory cells your body uses to recognize #infections it has already beaten, and it wipes out part of that hard-won memory. A 2019 study in Science found measles erased anywhere from 11% to 73% of children's existing antibody repertoire, and even kids with mild cases lost about 20% on average."
