The last Pandava still climbing reaches the gate of heaven. Indra says come in, but the dog that followed him up the mountain has to stay out. Yudhishthira refuses: the dog comes too, or he turns back.
The dog turns out to be Dharma in disguise. India's oldest epic makes a dog at the doorway the final test of a king.
