This will prove to be interesting. The semanticians who create Israel’s messaging are among the best in the world. They have conflated #Judaism and #Israel in the minds of many people, so they can claim that any criticism of Israel is #antisemitism. Which is, of course, absurd as a logical argument, but very effective messaging. The #IHRA declaration seems innocuous, until you read the examples, wherein they say that criticism of Israel is antisemitism. The #BMA was correct in their vote. People under 50 may not have even met anyone who experienced WW2. Israel doesn’t have the same emotional weight that it held 80 years ago. They squandered it straight away with the King David Massacre, and they just kept killing, in front of three generations of people who’ve barely studied WW2. GenX and younger have never seen an Israel that wasn’t the aggressor. Yet, none of *us* conflate the two. We don’t blame Jews. We blame Israel, where the blame belongs. https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/uk-doctors-reject-ihra-definition-and-back-protections-staff-speaking-palestine

UK Doctors’ Union Drops Israel-Backed [IHRA] Definition of Antisemitism: Over concerns medics are being punished for opposing Gaza genocide | Novara Media (2026-06-25) https://novaramedia.com/2026/06/25/uk-doctors-union-drops-israel-backed-definition-of-antisemitism/ ——— >> The British Medical Association (#BMA) has voted to drop the International Holocaust Remembrance Association (#IHRA) definition of antisemitism over fears it had a “chilling” effect on free speech, including support for #Palestine. >> The IHRA definition regards certain criticisms of Israel – including that its existence is a racist endeavour – as antisemitic. In the UK, it has been widely adopted by the national government, policing and local authorities. >> The definition was officially adopted by Israel’s government in 2017. Doctors voted to drop it at the BMA’s annual meeting on Tuesday over fears that medics are being punished for their views on international politics… #Gaza #FreedomOfExpression @palestine@lemmy.ml @palestine@fedibird.com
