Surface rust on pedals. Used a scratch pad to buff outside and inside of both pedals over the last few days, removed pedals, re-greased threads. Wd40 into the rusty springs... not sure how much more you can do on those. The crank arms have some nifty color effect going on. #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

Metric bolts arrived. Turns out one mounting hole is stripped. So. Do I tap it for the next size up, or run a longer bolt to a nut? (Nut of course subject to randomly popping off while riding, even with a lock bolt!) #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

Also, one of the hangers I ordered and cancelled because no responsiveness from vendor, arrived. 😵‍💫 will sit on that I guess... I already ordered a replacement from the manufacturer. 😵‍💫#BikeRepair

4/40 would fit through the existing hole... but, kludge. Needs a shorter bolt, which I do have. And lock bolt. And thread lock, probably, if I do it this way. #BikeRepair

Hanger arrived from manufacturer. Includes screws, which are listed as a separate item on their website. Installed hangar and disaster! The screw I found which fit the too large hold snapped while tightening. 😵‍💫 this may end up drilled out to a larger hole after all. There's an extra, non threaded hole next to it... tempted to just run a threaded bolt and nut through that for reinforcement and call it good. #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

Next decision: wax the chain before install, or use chain lube on this? 🤔 (this is mostly "how much work do I want to put into this). Probably will just wax the chain while i have it out and clean. I have another chain I need to wax, too. #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

Chain waxed... derailleur adjusted. This bike doesn't fit on a Park stand. I had to clamp it by the seat. Rode it up and down the street, but ran out of light. Needs more adjustment tomorrow, but this is back to rideable! Cannondale Power V. Carbon, one of the first suspension mountain bikes. Missy Giove edition, circa 1993. This one took a lot of work, not yet done. #BikeRepair

RE: https://mastodon.murkworks.net/@moira/116988951616592476 I meant this, by the way. I know the odds are low, but does anyone local want a 13-year-old 7-speed Schwinn Gateway? It's not a good bike but it has a comfortableness to it. Terrible for hills, but not so bad on the flats. You'd want new tubes and tyres, these are ancient even if they do still hold air and have tread. No warranty, obviously, get any new-to-you bike checked out before riding, etc etc etc. It's free and entirely at your own risk. #BikeTooter #OldSchwinn #BikeRepair #seattle #northshore

i want the hammer finish specifically because I’m just not gonna go at smoothing rust pocks and chrome. that’s just not a thing I’m gonna do. so i may as well lean into it and make it ALL pocks (the underside is primer and a coat of metallic silver which I used because I had it and it was smoother thanks to no chrome. it looks okay.) #BikeRepair
