Another thing about #Axanar, in reading about the debacle that this production was, I came across two stances.
One was from JJ Abrams who chided Paramount saying this is not how to treat one's fan-base. He is entirely correct.
Another was from Wil Wheaton who of course supports fan products but was very clear in his condemnation of Axenar's production and financial mishandling, saying they exploited the fan base for money and were morally, ethically, and legally in the wrong, and that he doesn't want these people to be the poster child for challenging draconian IP laws and studios like Paramount. He is also entirely correct.
I hope the future for fan-made productions isn't in the toilet because Axanar chose to so mishandle things. I recently moaned about how watered down and awful Renegades: Requiem was, and I feel they were partially to blame.
