Schöne Erklärung in Gebärdensprache (#ASL): 'With ADHD my flashlight sometimes locks onto one thing and refuses to move. At the times it swings to every little vibration, movement or thought that pop up. I'm not choosing where it goes. I'm constantly trying to guide it back. I'm always reading facial expressions following his signing, watching body language, scanning my surrounding, all while trying to stay engaged in a conversation.' #ADHS (ohne Medikation) Video ohne Ton, open captions.

My Deaf therapist just shared with me that in the Deaf cultural studies crowd, they joke that "hard of hearing" is actually "soft of deaf" and I love that! 🙌 🤟 #Deaf #DeafCulture #ASL

A new app created by Disney animator Josh Staub tied to his animated series project 'Small Talk' offers a charming way to learn ASL. #SmallTalk #JoshStaub #AmericanSignLanguage #ASL https://www.animationmagazine.net/2026/07/animator-josh-staub-launches-small-talk-asl-learning-app-series-project/

This is a niche ask but fedi seems like the place I might find an answer: Does anyone have any idea of old publications (ideally ones on the internet archive), modern online communities that discuss media, or any other sources amongst the deaf community where I might find some discussion or writing or anything about how deaf folks felt about Tony, the deaf teen on season 9 of Dallas? Getting a recurring deaf character at all NOW is still rare, much less in the 80s, so I'd really like to know if there's any reactions preserved from that time or if there's any posts about it now from folks remembering it then. I'm about to scour places like reddit but it's like...I know where to go to find Dallas discussions I can search for discussion about deaf representation, I don't know where I might find general deaf community discussions new or old i could search for Dallas discussion. My single user self hosted server doesn't have a ton of reach so boosts appreciated! I'm adding a few hashtags I found with some use too. #deaf #deafblind #disability #SignLanguage #ASL #AmericanSignLanguage

Lovely Peeps! Your cool #history for the day! 🚀 (You might want to watch with sound off. The music has words & I found it difficult to hear the music, read the text, AND focus on the signing.) If you want to just enjoy the signing, the full text is within this post. 😊 "Everyone’s talking about Artemis II. The first humans to travel to the moon in 50 years. Historic mission. But nobody’s talking about the #Deaf men who made it possible. In the late 1950s, #NASA had a problem. They needed to understand what weightlessness does to the human body. But every test subject kept getting violently motion sick. So they came to #Gallaudet. Eleven Deaf men. Most of them had lost their hearing to spinal meningitis as children, which also damaged their vestibular system. Their inner ears couldn’t be overwhelmed. They were immune to motion sickness. NASA put them in centrifuges. Zero-gravity flights. A rotating room for twelve straight days. One experiment on a ferry in choppy Nova Scotia waters. The researchers got so seasick they had to cancel it. The Gallaudet Eleven? They were playing cards. Their bodies gave NASA the data it needed to send humans into space. No #Gallaudet_Eleven — no Mercury. No Mercury — no Apollo. No Apollo — no Artemis II. Sixty years later, four astronauts just flew 252,000 miles from Earth & came home safely. They stood on the shoulders of eleven Deaf men most people have never heard of. Now you know!" #Artemis2 #ASL #History #TIL #Nyle_di_Marco
