Mostly directed at you skinny lemmys. As a luxuriously sized north American, it struck me as odd that I could not recall my knees knocking together since childhood. True, I have enjoyed powerlifting since highschool, but still. I can press my knees together just fine seated or reclining. How often does the average Lemmy feel their knees knock together?

After several months, I finally finished watching the entire Twin Peaks series and the movie Fire Walk with Me. For me, there’s no doubt that it’s a masterpiece, in fact, I think the movie can only be understood after watching the third season. What do you think of Twin Peaks? Do you think you understood it? Retirement savings accounts (AFORES) invest workers’ money through Sociedades de Inversión Especializada en Fondos para el Retiro (SIEFOREs), which aim to maximize returns for you through investments regulated and supervised by the Comisión Nacional del Sistema de Ahorro para el Retiro (CONSAR), thus growing workers’ money. SIEFOREs are generational; you are assigned one according to your birth year, as the investment strategy of these funds is determined by the time you have left until retirement. And they generate a lot of money, because from January to June 2026, the 10 Afores in Mexico obtained a combined net profit of 8,968 million pesos (517.2 million dollars), the highest amount in real terms since 2021, according to data from the Comisión Nacional del Sistema de Ahorro para el Retiro (Consar). Do you think a pilot program should be implemented to see if this ends up being viable for the USA?

In this scenario, the 2028 elections have already passed, but the discussion isn’t about whether the Democrats, Republicans, or another party won. Rather, the question is whether that administration is using AI to develop certain policies in the economic, scientific, technological, transportation, military, tax, health, or other sectors. Would you accept that administration using these tools, or would you prefer that humans make those policies?

Question: Where are you interacting with and being interacted with others online in the most authentic and fulfilling way for you? Background: I have been really seeking out some participation in a group for the purposes of knowledge sharing. I turned inward with the rejection of typical social media doom scrolling. But have since found it very difficult to get out of isolation with a remote job. I want to find community digitally but have been struggling to do so. I joined a gaming Reddit group a decade ago that provided the opportunity for me to talk and play games with a fairly moderated environment. I’ve found Discord to be substantially less participatory than that TeamSpeak/Reddit combo was. I would LIKE to find something similar here on Lemmy because I think link aggregators and long form write ups are more of my preference of communication with others online (forums). I’d go to reddit but I left for digital privacy reasons.

Inspired by a post I saw on AskReddit (because has now been removed). What is something you believe is growing because of young people?

I’ve been banned twice from shitpost because of a shitpost. It seems the people on there are more sensitive than 5 ply toilet paper. I thought Reddit was bad but they allow for a lot more shitposts than lemmy, where I thought lemmy would be more free but it is way more conservative. And no it wasn’t even anything racist or degrading. Anyway from now on just rainbows, butterflies, fairies and unicorns are allowed as shitpost. Maybe rename the sub to softpost.

Are you just always tired? Do you have some kind of bedtime ritual? Have you had issues sleeping in the past and how did you handle that?

I’ve bought a new steel acoustic guitar (Epiphone DR-100) and I want to add cleaner and softer songs to my repertoire. Curious for answers

I’m seeing a lot of stories about protests in India including a march on parliament. Than the arrest of the opposition leader and another influential person on hunger strike. But what is unclear is what is the background? And are they separate incidents or are they linked? If someone on the ground in India could detail what is happening, that would be great.

We do exactly the same job. To me the idea of enjoying a job is an odd one: I don’t want to work, I only work because I need the money. If I had money I wouldn’t work. I don’t know if this makes me the oddest person on earth, but where I am my coworkers sometimes make me feel so. She asked me if I enjoy my job. I looked at her surprised while thinking to answer her with a regular blanket manager answer like ‘it is such a honor to work here, fuck yeah, I’d love to work here for free!’ or being completely sincere. I was in a good mood, so I chose being sincere: ‘I don’t enjoy working, I work because I need to pay for the rest of my life, I enjoy cooking, writing poetry and walking through a forest.’ She looked at me a bit surprised and replied: ‘but you have to like your job.’ My answer? ‘As long as I earn money all’s good.’ This happened in a big room with like 9 coworkers hearing the convo. Now I don’t know if I just committed job suicide where I work at, but it was liberating saying out loud at the workplace what I think a job is. And why the fixation that you must like a job? It’s a job for fucks sake. Why do you have to like it? To me this only confirms my current job is a cult. Am I exaggerating? If every workplace is like this I should stick with the devil I know…

As a new converted baseball enthusiast, I’m curious where do you watch games? I know one can use mlb tv, but it is paid subscription, so that is not an option. Also, it shouldn’t be live games.

Anybody have good mp3 files to use as alarm sounds? If the sound is too annoying I will turn it off right away and go back to sleep. I usually take a while to wake up so very short ones dont work too well for me. Sometimes I want gentle and other times more aggressive so all moods are welcome. To directly share files, you can upload them to a temporary file hosting service like upload.disroot.org and post/pm a link. If you have one that came with your phone but can’t access the file to share (or dont want to), just post the name and if possible what kind of phone it is, maybe I can find it.
