Incense from Africa and Asia, the secrets of the sacrifices in Pompeii have been revealed. (Adnkronos) - Local plants but also aromatic substances imported from Africa or Asia were burned on the censers of the domestic altars of Pompeii. This is what emerges from the scientific investigations of an international team of experts who analyzed what was burned in the ritual braziers found in Pompeii. Evidence of how much Pompeii was part of a global trade network. The results are published in the journal “Antiquity. A Review of World Archaeology” in an article titled “Ashes from Pompeii: incense burners, residue analyses and domestic cult practices.” #Africa #Pompeii #Ashes https://www.adnkronos.com/cultura/incenso-dallafrica-e-dallasia-svelati-i-segreti-dei-sacrifici-a-pompei_6xtE88YTGgwj6HXwsWgrK7

“The longest Test match in Australia was the Fifth Test between Australia and England in Melbourne in 1929, which lasted for eight playing days. Australia won by five wickets in front of an eighth-day crowd of 20,000.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeless_Test #Ashes

My brain doesn’t know whether everyone getting out is entertaining cricket or not. But there’s also a part of my brain saying “You should be listening to Blackened Symphonic Death Metal instead”. And I gotta listen to that part of my brain for a bit. #Ashes

The thing I like about the cute woollen vests in #Ashes cricket is it partially hides the advertising.

Maybe I’m too disconnected from mainstream media in Australia, but I’m experiencing a fair bit of cultural cringe watching the cricket. There’s the ads promising “true Aussie energy” and one of the commentators is Bluey(?) #Ashes.

What ever else happens in this #Ashes series, I hope this tail ender Australian batsman beats their top score of 9.

The cricket is back on! It’s the first day of the Boxing Day Match, which, as us cricket fans know, is traditionally played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and not at other cities. Certainly not Sydney. #Ashes

Because the cricketers apparently need to “have lunch”, I’ve gone back to listening to my tunes. #Ashes

It must be a chilly summer’s day in Sydney because the cricket players are wearing their little woollen vests. #Ashes

I understand England already lost the Ashes series, but I just turned on the TV and Australia is getting smashed right now. #Ashes

The #Ashes has turned from 'lol England' into 'we got a contest here' in the weirdest way.
