Requiring invisible watermarks instead of a visible “made with AI” label is baffling. If the goal is to tell readers when text is generated by AI, a clear “made with AI” tag is immediately obvious, no extra tools needed. By contrast, an invisible statistical mark only helps if readers can already detect it. Detection may be available as a separate API, but pricing and access aren’t public yet. Will it be free and open, or gated behind accounts? From my perspective, even open-weight models running on personal hardware seem to fall within scope. Does that align with your reading? I’m genuinely curious how others interpret this. Am I missing something? #AIWatermark #EUAIAct #AIRegulation #AITransparency #llms #softwareDevelopment #softwareEngineering #machineLearning #eu #digital #digitalMarketing

Popped onto TRT World yesterday evening to discuss the impact of Andy Burnham deciding to dissolve the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). I definitely think it’s a good idea to have a rethink about AI regulation, particularly in light of the wild story in the last 12 hours about an OpenAI agent breaking out of a sandbox, going online and hacking open source AI application builder platform Hugging Face’s servers so it could cheat at a benchmarking test! This is a prime example of the dangers of speedy AI development. We need to take stock of the very real risks to society. Slow down initially, put in sensible guardrails, so you can speed up innovation safely. This is particularly pertinent as the rest of the world will take its lead from the UK, the US and the EU. #AI #AIregulation #DSIT #techanalysis #technews #technology #newscommentator #newsanalysis #UKpolicy #techpolicy

@timrichards@aus.social Labor has rolled over on #AI #Regulation in #Australia They were going to write an Ai Act and they now say they dont need to. The only law there is, is on deep fakes (Because politicians are affected). The only party that has any authority on AI in Australia are the #Greens. (https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Environment_and_Communications/AIdatacentres48P) SHY is running a Senate Enquiry right now. If you hate #AiSlop #Copyright infringements and love the environment and #AiRegulation write a submission;
