Impromptu panel at Pages Bookshop last night. Talked to a college-aged brother afterward. His heart was in writing. Asked me what's the one thing I wish somebody had told me at his age about craft. I told him play. Always play when you're being creative. Young brother lit up. Profs hadn't told him that. It was a damn good night.

Creative peeps, always keep in mind that even though it's empirically impossible to say Toni Morrison's work sucks, someone is happily climbing that hill to gasp that breath. With that in mind, do the work honestly, suck for someone, be necessary fresh air to yourself and others.
