That early era of blogging that lots of the people being nostalgic are thinking of, coincided precisely with the era in which it was possible for an individual to make at least beer money off of banner ads. That funding source is never coming back, and for unrelated reasons I would argue that we don't *want* it to come back, but people have forgotten it was even there, and don't realize that without it, much of that blogging wouldn't have happened.
