The problem for me is the AI curating and interpreting the results for you with every search. If you’re using a mainstream “AI powered” search engine these days, it will come to a conclusion on its own and then show you only results that corroborate it, rather than the other way around.

If the goal is to have a clean conscience in US politics, may as well not vote at all and just spend that time volunteering at your local food bank instead. At least that has more of a net positive to society than political virtue signalling. I say this as someone who once voted Green in an election, because I was a dumb kid who thought a protest vote would ever accomplish something. First past the post needs to go before our third party dreams can be more than just memes.

The voters ultimately caused this current situation, so I absolutely blame them. We are seeing the result of the uncontested will of the American people.

I looked at the premise of his book that this article seems to connect with, and it basically boils down to “History shows that societies becomes a lot more peaceful and productive after periods of war.” Wow, who’d’ve thought that things get better for the people who survive a war? It’s a good thing we can apply survivorship bias to the whole of human history with such confidence like that.

A lot of America is truly that racist. Sometimes overt, but often subtle (e.g. "I don’t hate black people, but crime rates don’t lie). There are pockets that are generally decent, but these are increasingly imperiled by growing external threats from the national government and bigots that feel empowered to act on its behalf.

FWIW I initially just took this in the context of the source material, Game of Thrones. Cersei Lannister (pictured) comes from a noble house whose sigil is a lion. They use a lot of lion metaphors. One of the quotes from her father Tywin (in the show at least) is "The lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep." Cersei as a character, though, is a bit of a hot mess who makes it her business to concern herself with everyone.
