@Gina I have younger kids and also feel conflicted!

If we have to do it then something along these lines feels much better than handing over IDs and it sucks that governments have essentially pushed this in without pushing for such privacy measures.

My kids are both <9 and so far I've allowed limited access by whitelisting domains but that only lasts so long.

I've seen how fast the algorithms can take them off track and that is my biggest concern.

But I also want to let them explore and discover the great stuff out there that people create.

I think the age of most concern is still to come for me, a hypothetical age of pushing the boundaries while being prone to manipulation (but aren't we all anyway). But it is not hard to find disturbing content with even a slightest interest.

But with all of that said:

• Will that content follow the rules? No
• Will that prevent children from seeking that content? Some but probably not those most at risk

So right now I come down against. I think the harm caused to society as a whole outweighs the benefits. I didn't grow up on this internet though and that makes it so much harder to know! (I was at uni when Facebook came out)

I think we are at the point of many revolutions where first you get the free thinkers, then the corporates come for extraction and now the government comes for control. I just hope there is enough of the start left to survive because by god the corporations have made a mess!
