Definitions are fleeting, but mostly I write about hardware engineering, dev/test labs, ai/ml/hpc architecture, or neurology, or music, or posting photos.

When I'm not working, I'm researching neural networks, analyzing Arxiv data for pipeline processing, and often wasting time on analysis of genetic propensity trace operations. Sometimes I go to the mountains, or the reefs.

Truisms for Eternity - The Great JS Sadness

    1. the world requires less javascript, not more
    1. nodejs is a plague, failing all Science from Computer Science
    1. whoever decided that a privileged system level server coded in JS to run JS apps needs their membership card revoked and should never be authorized to drive a vehicle unless it's directly into a ditch filled with rusty pull-top soda cans from 1964 (no tetanus shot ahead of time, needs hardcore lock-jaw to prevent any other fumes of "Fully Stack Concept" to never escape the lips).

I've always disliked javascript, always always always have; especially through the years of debugging jQuery, extJS, AJAX, react, node, npm, npx, npstfu, npgtfo, pnpm.. they never needed to happen. Javascript never needed to be made. We had options. We had alternatives. It would have been better to have had Perl/CGI win the browser race - and I am not going to be writing the Perl chapter right now.

So, why did we, the human race, blip into this specific thread of existence where we have to deal with all of the usual bullshit of humanity and its beautiful tragedies and honest mistakes and decent but idiot concepts like, "I'm sure the Challenger can go one more blastoff before we change those O-Rings!" (said literally no engineer ever, but management had to cut costs donchaknow - like at Boeing with the doors falling off mid-flight, but so much worse).

Are these types of managerial mistakes the underlying reason why we're made to suffer through a modern miasma of nodejs and v8 and chromium playwright ubuntu horrorshow hellspawn code? It's not Ai, sorry haters, this came way before LLMs.

No, no... that would be crazy talk. The answer is simple: too many coder camps with too many people who went into compsci without giving two shits about hardware or computers at all (or creative rational thought apparently), and too many people "learned to code!" without wanting to learn to code; they wanted money. Javascript is greed incarnate.

So, this ever-enduring plague of Javascript is one of the great failures of modern life; a representative fixture of glued-together sticky-notes made entirely of compromises, reactionary-centric decisions, and complete disregard for the decency intrinsic to "The Art of Engineering with Computer Sciences".

@jonschwenn have you heard of Wierd Stuff Warehouse? It's no-longer, but it was a beautiful place: https://www.paloaltoonline.com/uncategorized/2018/04/13/these-photos-of-weirdstuff-warehouse-will-make-you-sad-the-quirky-shop-is-gone-for-good/

@emory@soc.kvet.ch have you tried gemma4 lately? it's quite nice for reasoning without needing substantial resources, runs locally on mobile w/ NPU better than anything I've previously tested. otherwise, yep.. MCP are the new shiny methods to automate agent flows (also vLLM and friends, for additional optimization).
