But I don't think this is a concern internally. IA knows its own data. So the resource is there, people just have to make sure they're getting it directly from the source.

@Andii@mas.to @tomw@mastodon.social @chancerydaily@masto.ai I don't think it can, because the stamp is something the archive does (not something it adds based on external time-stamping). The stamp is literally just a notation of when they crawled a page.

@tomw@mastodon.social @chancerydaily@masto.ai I have a friend who works at the Internet Archive and I told him recently that their collection has become instantly more valuable because the imports are all time-stamped; they will be the only large digital source of information uncorrupted by plausible AI.

@Julie@social.coop “Make your own instance” is especially unhelpful to the targets of abuse because you’re just telling them to create a really attractive attack surface. Better to have a crap ton of instances with good policies and active moderation teams. “Make your own instance” is for people with money and access and time who want to make their own rules or nerd out about something specific, it’s a totally different problem.

The fact that Tumblr is thinking of joining the fediverse will make it easier for me, since some fan folk have gone there. I won’t be making any closed-universe group my place; if you can’t link to it or see it from an incognito browser, I don’t want to post to it.

@Malintent@mastodon.social I always sign up to nail down a user name, but that’s the extent of it for me on Post. Hive seems to have attracted a lot of people in the Star Wars fandom specifically, so I may still check in there; somehow conversations about Large Company IP seem less precious, as does the data about me Hive will hoover up as a result of participating there in relation to that one single interest.

They would have to rewrite the whole thing to make it explicit that they’re talking about poor people, if that’s indeed what they meant, but the choice they *did* make put them squarely in “the law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread” territory.
