@lagrange@skyjake.fi I think what firefox does is, if you middle click and pointer is over a link, then it's a "open in new tab" action, and if not then it activates the auto scroll mode.

@lagrange@skyjake.fi Yay, thank you for middle click scroll! Even though I'm used to a different "gesture", instead of holding middle click and moving it up/down, what I usually do is middle click to get into "auto scrolling" mode and move mouse up/down, then left click or middle click to stop auto scrolling. But I know this can be tricky because of middle click paste (selection buffer on Linux DEs), so I guess I'll just get used to middle mouse hold and drag now.
