GenAI vs. ML / Know what we are fighting against

In the last weeks, I have seen some posts against kinds of AI, we are using as a society since decades (yes, decades) just because the Term AI is used. When we are talking about society and planet destroying AI, we are talking generative AI. That is that shit we know als Claude and ChatGPT. But media (and we) are starting to mix this up with “classical Machine Learning” Some stuff that is AI, and I am pretty sure we are not fighting against: hand written numbers recognition (developed around 30 years ago) lane hold assist systems voice recognition image classification (computer aided diagnostics in radiology is around since 2010). Those tasks do not need GPUs, huge amount of RAM or electricity. We should differentiate between Generative AI (LLM, Video and image Generation) and those old school, valid and useful “AI” systems. Not seeing a difference between those things is a AI Bro behavior, and should be beneath us. Just being against everything because somebody wrote “AI” besides it only offers AI Bros an attack surface on every other argument we bring forward. Everything that makes GenAI bad (hallucinations, AI psychosis, energy consumption, RAM usage,…) is a result of the generative part. An AI model that recognizes YOUR (yes, your!) handwriting on a envelope and routes your letter correctly, and does that since decades, is also AI. I hope nobody here expects us to go back to sorting boxes and hand sorting of letters and packages. EDIT: for more detail on AGI vs. GenAI look at this great comment.

I do not need nothing. Why should I care? I want to understand, that’s all. Maybe just read my other comments… And, maybe you should read the fucking comments of him defending the SS dudes. He is not a nazi. He is just as stupid as one. On the rape, no idea. Of course, believe women and investigate, but still, assumption of innocence holds. But after all, America vote a class of Nazis and Neop Babies into power. A convicted rapist, fraud and openly corrupt man. But hey, this dude is your biggest problem ATM? Yeah. Nobody can help America anymore. You are lost

Ok, after some closer look, it could resemble the SS “Mützenabzeichen”, but it could also just be a generic skull. BTW, the British atme are no nazis are they? www.army.mod.uk/…/royal-lancers/ I can not say what exactly that tattoo was there is no clear image I found, so I can not jump to conclusions in any direction.

German here. Is there any real image of the tattoo anywhere? I could only find some images with a big black blob.

I can not help you with anything legal. I live in a country with consumer rights and am shocked to see how you are treated. I can understand both of you. Keeping you window open while the central AC runs will cost a fucking bunch of money and is bad for the environment. On the other side, fresh air is important, it is your window and so on Wow, maybe you can compromise? Is there maybe a way to close the vents in your apartment so that you no longer receive cold air? I only know how us apartment look from the inside from good old US Entertainment, but it seems to me that should be straight forward and possible

And ThinkPad and Dell habe a bunch of Linux compatible notebooks. If you are in a European country not being locked into apples ecosystem would be a major argument for me.

That was an example. And as someone who works in sec, I know the benefits of a package manager. "I only need to trust brave". I don't get it, static linking, curl to bash pipes and userepace install and everybody thinks that is fine. But as someone who needs to write a security concept for Linux in the office so I can finally use it at work, no that is not ok. That is shit. Rust on desktop is also a nightmare for example. No I do not hate arch, I hate concepts and mindsets creeping into the Linux world

Anywhere else, I just need the package from the brave project or their repo. I trust the brave project, I do not trust the AUR for reasons.

True, I also have a choice to use a distro that delivers the software I need in the main repo.

Maybe, just maybe, and nearly unmoderated repository where everybody can create packages, is not so secure after all? /s And AUR is the reason I keep arch miles away from any of my systems.

Looking at AusweisApp2, just works. And, is there already a 1.0 release of the new App or is this still pre release?

So. Hosting shared files is the same as hosting a game you sell. And want the people to buy it and not just download, some kind of at least activation? Right?
