It matters and should have been made clear, now or later. If it's to repair, a shop can submit a supplemental estimate to cover actual costs, so you don't have to pay more than your deductible.
If it's totalled, it's a more difficult fight around fair market value.
And then there is the issue of who was deemed at fault. Are you fighting your own insurance company or someone else's?
You can guess how I know all this crap.
