Sometime, for a few minutes, I can forget the rest of the world and pretend that doing applied physics in the service of the AI death cult and the USA empire is an ok thing to do.

But it's not. This whole system is murdering the living Earth. And it's miserable.

We can do better. And those of us in science and technology have a much larger responsibility to act to change this hell than most. Most of us are less than 2 degrees of separation from the people who actually make up the technocracy now, they're our college room mates and former friends.

Protests don't work. Voting doesn't work. Shouting online doesn't work. Random acts of violence don't work.

The only thing that's going to work is to find a better way to build and scale technology, outside of empire and capital. And to do that, we must turn to the fire hose of trash that defines the built world we presently inhabit. And we must build a techno-system based on free replication across free media which can replace the paradigm of "consumer media".

That is the purpose of Trash Magic: to create and scale technology using self-replicating information encoded in the free stream of trash produced by the existing techno-system.

The dream of the fake technology worker is to find some little piece of the fake thing that might be real and hope that somehow reaches the world of the real.

Or perhaps some day "quantum computing" will become real.

My guess is that "quantum computing" will keep "advancing" but it will remain useless for any serious definition of "utility".

It is very weird, the situation we are in now, and I don't think we talk about that enough. I tried very hard to find a job in literally anything that's not a stupid waste of time or a war crime, and it's not possible. No one in the "real economy" will hire me.

And no path appears to turn my real work into anything that can feed the infinite parking meter of life in this evil society. So it's work on pointless fake tech in a field i hate or work on pointless fake tech for the war machine or lose everything and end up with no place to live, no access to basic resources.

I do not forgive the people who call life in this system "freedom".

Fake jobs for a fake economy.

EVERY DAY IS ANOTHER DAY AT THE END OF THE WORLD!

The excuse for so many fake and evil things is "it's small compared to some other much larger fake or evil thing". But this does not make the small thing not evil and not fake. All the fake things are connected: AI, quantum, crypto, space, fusion. And all the evil things are connected: empire, oil, gas, coal, war, fundamentalism, the state, the corpos.
Can we simply dream a better world into existence?
We have to try!
We have to try to invert this reality we are presently trapped in!
We have to believe that there good things and real things exist in this world and that we can grow those things faster than the Enemy can grow their things.
Believe, and try stuff, and eventually win!

I think the "metaverse" meme can now be seized back from the Enemy. What is it? If we read it plainly, it's a "universe" of "metaphors", or a sort of multiverse of realities built from signs of various kinds which stand in for really anything. So a fully reclaimed "metaverse" would include every CAD layout used to design every product, every game world, every world an animator builds to create a film, every world that exists in a painting, every world that exists in a book, every world that exists in markets and empires and governments and corporations and religions and so on. A continuum of built worlds from the Human Mind. I think that's a thing worth speaking of, and I think it would be a perfect epitaph to the 88 billion dollar failure of the Worst Man on Earth to simply seize the word from him. Make it generic. Make it a term of art for weirdos who talk about philosophy, technology, and media. If the "metaverse" is taken this way, it really is where most of us work, where most money exists, and where the most valuable properties in the world under capitalism all exist. And it is a place in which a revolution must now take place, where the masses rise up and overthrow our oppressors. Arise! It's right to rebel!

If your enemy has to dig up metal from a mine on the other side of the world and burn oil to deliver it to a factory, make a product in a factory, and then ship to a consumer, and you take trash and the sun and deliver your product direct locally to the end user, you win. it's just thermodynamics. the world has a metabolism. the metabolism of the imperial mode of production is fire and blood. we propose a metabolism of trash, soil, and the sun. just as before, but with the wisdom and craft of the last thousand years to draw from. it can be done. it will be done.

A prime mission of trash magic is the overthrow of the venture capital structure of power in technology scaling. This is a simple war of numbers: replicate faster than your enemy and you can seize power. VC has seized the whole global system of capital flow, turning the entire efforts of Humanity into a laser beam pointing wherever they want. But that whole fire hose of trash comes from the mine and blood and oil and empire. There is friction in their imperial death machine and that friction costs energy. Trash magic aims to create mechanisms for scaling technology which require not money no mining and no property and scale from one part of the Trash Feed to the next via pure memetic replication across a free self-replicating network which also grows from trash. it's hard to start the fire and it all looks like the ravings of a mad man now. but once the fire starts it will be impossible to put out. I believe this. and i will fight for it as long as i have any energy to do anything.

The technology oligarchy seizes memes of things which they did not invent. This is their power. it is no accident that they ended up with Donald Trump as their front man! What is the Trump business model? put the name on anything and everything and do nothing, and hope the name meme seizes the underlying meme. This is what Musk has done with every one of "his" businesses. It's what all these guys do. It's what Steve Jobs did. none of these people are technologists in any meaningful way. they are the people who have figured out how to steal the real power of technologists. They are the parasites. And it is time we learned to throw them off and exist without them.
