@arisingvoice freetube, the third party youtube client we use, lets you have different profiles, which have their own subscriptions. which is like a bare minimum thing of differentiation¹ and we've yet to see even that anywhere else ¹: differentiation between authentication and identity like those are different things,,, you want to make sure noone who isnt allowed to do something does it, and use that to give everyone their own space that others can't mess with (the stuff that's tied to their authentication). but then what that space consists of is orthogonal to auth. we like to make distinctions like this between things that are different. big important. feels related to the thing where we like to say what we mean and not what we don't mean. like distinctions are used to draw the boundaries between the thing you mean and the thing you don't mean

recently we learned that an early version of factorio had a building whose texture was just a box with text saying something like "endgame building"

and like that works! if youre making a prototype you're in fact allowed to do something like this

we keep thinking of this when we see gpt:s being used to make textures

there was a factorio mod that was like "if you dont want me to keep using the ai generated asset send me a better one to use instead" and the ai generated one was like a stop sign crossed circle and a clock symbol

and like that's not hard to draw! a circle, a line, another circle with lines inside

squishcraft and the other games by that dev have textures that are like. noticeably not done by a professional texture artist. and the games still have fascinatingly spatial mechanics that keep interested players playing

you really dont need to use ai for temporary assets

and if someone does do that we're disinclined to using their thing no matter how it looks. because we generally dont wanna use something that was specifically made through unethical means

@InternetEh mhm "they're here illegally" afaik basically means that certain people (cops, wannabe cop civilians) will hurt the person in question if they find out about their presence in general "illegal" means in material consequences basically "cops will hurt you if you do it" i like to ground out things like this in this way, as in what actually happens. then they stop being things that possess us and stop our figuring-things-out processes. like if someone says "that's illegal" instead of being like "oh no it's Bad avoid avoid avoid" we can be like "okay so cops are a potential threat to consider if you do that thing, noted". no semantic stopsigns 🐱 (crimes that have fines and stuff still ground out in violence, cuz how else are they gonna force you to pay?)
