@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io The other day I heard the Aramaic word Jesus would have used to refer to God was Alāhā. I can imagine a lot of Americans being outraged if we used the same word Jesus used when referring to God.

@Sarahp@mastodon.social One thing I like about Apple’s weekly drops is that it gives each episode time to breathe. I enjoyed reading social media posts and deep analyses on YouTube each week following a new Widow’s Bay episode. Sometimes, after seeing others’ comments/analyses, I would rewatch the episode and before the next one dropped.

@stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social @markv@mastodon.social There are a number of relatively simple things Apple could do to encourage developers, owners, and potential owners. 1) Announce next week they are still investing heavily in visionOS. 2) Bring more than one system-wide environment to the platform each year. 3) Add Apple TV series environments to Apple TV. Silo? For All Mankind? 4) Bring more apps to visionOS. Apple Maps? 5) Increase new Apple Immersive Video drops to one a week.

@daringfireball@mastodon.social visionOS is amazing. Apple Immersive Video is amazing. Blackmagic’s immersive camera for 3rd party creators has been out for less than a year with a live version released this past month, and 3rd party videos are starting to come out. I think Apple (with partners) is building a solid foundation in OS, libraries, and tooling. We just need to wait for the hardware to become cheap enough and comfortable enough.

@Natasha_Jay This is a key plot point for the 1964 novel Simulacron-3 - using simulated populations for public opinion polling instead of needing to poll real people (which was done constantly in the novel). It turns out the protagonist's society was actually a simulator for higher-level entities. It was adapted into the 1999 movie The Thirteenth Floor.

YouTube in Safari in full screen mode in Apple Vision Pro is impressive. In many ways, I prefer it over the official app. Plus, because it is in Safari, you can add your own environments.

@asymco For personal use, I think the primary comparison for the Apple Vision Pro will be the Apple TV. It is a great device for leaning back on the couch at the end of the day to watch content.

@snazzyq @siracusa I liked the early TiVo. I felt the quality of the experience went downhill after a few years. Today, I use Apple TV (hardware), and only watch commercial-free streaming content with the exception (ironically) of my local PBS station. When I am at a place with commercial TV, it is like fingernails on a chalkboard now.
