@3dogcouch@mas.to @carnage4life@mas.to I genuinely think this is the core of the problem.
There is no question that the US is better off in every way with educated, independent women.
But the reactionaries do not give a crap about "better off" and want subservient women chained to the home.

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange I'm of the opinion that the "NK soldiers in Ukraine" story is more of a "Russia is running out of trained soldiers" story than anything else.

@gsymon@mstdn.social @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange Yes. Using the example from the OP, if your passive income is $50M with a potential tax liability is $47.5M, even spending $5M to reduce your tax liability to $40M is a tremendous gain.
In fact, the advent of the billionaire is a direct result of incredibly wealthy people a generation ago, diverting a minor fraction of their income to direct lobbying against high marginal tax rates.

@futurebird@sauropods.win Where I live (and vote) is reliably Biden territory. But our mayor is a longtime Republican.
He sucks. But he knows the politics here, and people think "he's not changing abortion laws, so what if he's a republican?"

@futurebird@sauropods.win I understand the way you feel, and it rubs me the wrong way. But it's also true and vitally important.
The fascists at the top of the Republican pecking order are enabled and supported by "normie" Republicans holding local and state level office.
Sure, "vote blue" means Biden and whichever Dem is running for your districts senate/house seat. But it also means voting for Dems on the town council and state legislature.

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social A cursory perusal of all of human history demonstrates pretty clearly how vast wealth inequality ends up for the rich. You'd think they would be more proactive about creating an equitable society, but... nope. The masters of the universe are stupid and venal. #eattherich

@ares@kolektiva.social @mrzaius@hachyderm.io @anildash@me.dm Yeah, there's a bit of 2 + 2 = 5 happening in this story. The stuff about paying Google is weird, but the basic outline is right.
If you're amazon, the problem is being reliant on Google for your traffic. What happens if tomorrow Google decides to house your results?
A lot of online vendors have this problem, but Amazon is big enough to do something about it. Encouraging more users to start their shopping at amazon.com is a win all by itself.

@hook@toot.si @zhuowei@notnow.dev @slothrop@chaos.social a man must have a code! I find the D&D characterizations fascinating precisely because they're ambivalent about outcomes. "Good/Evil/Neutral" and "Chaotic/Lawful" are about how the character views themselves, not how they're viewed by others.

@hook@toot.si @zhuowei@notnow.dev @slothrop@chaos.social MS is "lawful" in the sense that it mostly follows the rules it makes for itself. It's "evil" because it makes those rules to its own been benefit.
