@theraspb @codemonkeymike @HitokiriEric @coldclimate that seems pretty limited, though.
I'd be curious to see stats about Mac theft since the introduction of those features

@codemonkeymike @HitokiriEric @coldclimate also, regarding the Macs you have on your hands, I'm assuming quite a few of them are on the older side, and don't get security updates anymore.
Aren't there like, known vulnerabilities/jailbreaks for those ?
Or even "unpatchable without hardware revision" vulns

Hi, so, question tangential to this thread : about current Macbook theft and activation lock bypass.
So, afaict Macbook theft is still a thing, which means that there must be a way for thieves to get something out of those machines.
Are they just hoping that the machine they stole isn't activation-locked ? Is there like, an entire underground economy of replacing T2 chips to then resell (mostly) functional Macs ?

@alice@lgbtqia.space that's depressing (and infuriating)
Like, it's not that they're neck-deep in their bias and haven't realized, or that they don't care ; they ACTIVELY PURSUE THIS BEHAVIOR ?!
That's so, so much worse !

@albertcardona @echedellelr @kuba @claesdevreese very true, but that's still a nice, symbolic milestone !

@gsapienza @ianRobinson @elena I'm not sure I understand your argument.
The fact that it only affects a small percentage of users is good.
That's not a reason to accept or normalize that anyone's entire digital life can just get thrown in the grinder whenever a billion-dollar company decides to tweak their fraud-fighting algorithms.
The whole "you account and everything in it belongs to us, and we may terminate it at any time" is an issue.
You should be entitled to some form of due process.

@elena @ianRobinson the original story is horrifying.
However, while I'm glad for him that it got solved, it looks like this happened (at least partially) because he has more public reach than most people do.
Which makes me wonder : how many nobodies have a similar situation with no recourse ?
In the end, if the process is broken, it's broken. And if influent people get to bypass it, that only makes it even more broken for the rest of the population.
