@hazelton@sparkgap.marsfreeradio.org I learned recently this phenomenon is called “viscous fingering” aka Saffman–Taylor instability

@s0@cathode.church I used to plug other IEC cables into Apple’s power adapters that were expecting one of their outlet dongles, I kinda loved how they decided “we’ll just use a standard for AC and see how it pans out” in this situation rather than their usual strategy of inventing some special connector users need new cables/adapters for the next model.

> “The irony is that a minority once viewed as filled with sissies […] is now portrayed as filled with bullies and power brokers, and straight people, especially men, seem to perceive themselves as the weak and afraid ones. This inversion explains a host of baffling political and cultural phenomena of late. It also shows that some of the most durable stereotypes about gay people were never really about sexuality—which might explain why the homophobes […] seem to fit those stereotypes.”

My best architectural & design decisions are the product of letting my mind wander in perfect silence.

There’s this brain worm in tech that you should delegate all your thinking to, or at least constantly collaborate with, agents. The problem is that the nature of that kind of thinking is incredibly narrow and monotonous.

LLMs are made of language, but the mind has so many other ways of cogitating, and a lot problems are best engaged with nonlinguistic thinking.
