This was the last thing to completely migrate off of Teachable, and it's finally done! Certificates are live on TTI!
It took creating an entirely custom certificate generation system to do (more on that later), but it's done. Here's how it works:
Every course has a Course Completion topic, with an agreement button that functions just like how you enrolled and agreed to our community rules. When you click that button, a Rube Goldbergian situation kicks off that:
- Adds you to a public "Course Completers" group for the course that others can see.
- Generates a verified certificate for your accomplishment, using your chosen Display Name (not username) on the site. You can set this ahead of time in User Preferences.
- The certificate download link is sent to your email on record. The cert has a QR code on it that links to a certificate verification. This is for you, LinkedIn people.
GDPR concerns are addressed: if you request deletion, the cert will be anonymized and all user data will be removed.
If you're found to cheat or violate our community rules in any way, the cert can be revoked and the verification will indicate the revocation.
But hey! Certificates! It took a lot to get here, and hopefully this serves as a reasonable replacement for the Teachable flow.
