From the YouTube description:

"Tau Waterhole, an oasis for animals and wildlife including elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, zebras, and cheetahs ."

Tigers, huh? Escaped from the zoo? 😆

@smeg@assortedflotsam.com Shall I be the one pedantic nerd that misses the point of the joke and comments that elephant babies are not, in fact, even close to the biggest babies on earth? Blue whale babies are much, much larger at around three tons.

@notthatkindofdoctor @crazyeddie @georgetakei Yep, no argument from me that it's a stupid line of reasoning. But what else is new with this admin?

"When did she say this?"

She said it on Wednesday. Right before she said it, she did acknowledge the high prices, giving the official "short term pain, long term gain" rationalization. She wasn't actually pretending gas prices weren't currently high, she was trying to deflect criticism by saying they had been dropping for quite a while before. Still a weak attempt, but not exactly the same as the gaslighting that the out of context quote implies.

@mxchara@seattle.pink @cwebber@social.coop Yeah, I didn't know either. I guess the vast majority of people who take the test get relatively similar scores on the different parts, so if the parts are way off from each other the scoring process says to throw it all out. (This was the WISC, the most common IQ test for kids. I don't know if the adult WAIS is similar). The psychologist wasn't very surprised, as she said she'd seen it before with the particular type of neurodivergance my son has. Thankfully he's a smart kid and knows enough to just laugh about the IQ result.

@louisa_@mastodon.social "he evaded them, thinking they were a Native tribe wanting to harm him. Eventually he stumbled up an actual Native tribe who took him home."

I've got a story my great grandfather wrote about his trip alone into the "Indian Territory" in 1893 in what is now Oklahoma, when he was 16. He was terrified of the "Indians" and even took a rusty pistol with him (that didn't work) to try to protect himself from being scalped. When he did eventually run into some natives they... completely ignored him.

@cwebber@social.coop My son had an IQ test as part of a neuropsych eval for special ed placement. The IQ test wouldn't score him, as he scored very high on some sections and very low on others, and accidentally tripped the "results don't make sense" safeguards. This was quite a few years ago, but he still likes to tell people who seem to care about IQ that he doesn't have an IQ.

@grinningcat @tml @georgetakei The People's Court in the early 1980's was the big one that started off the reality court show craze. As opposed to Miller's Court from around the same time that was prototypical of the dramatized re-enactment court shows.

@tml @georgetakei I honestly don't know if there was a real case behind it. But I couldn't find anything about a real case when I searched for it. Only news headlines about the TV show episode.

@tml @georgetakei Yes, this is not a real court. They both get paid to be there. It used to be that they'd find "TV worthy" small claims cases and get the litigants to agree to dismiss the case and have it settled on the show. I don't know if they still do it that way, or if now they just wholly make them up.

Cats have always been my favorite animal. Sadly, I don't have cats at home currently, just a dog who is very sweet and we love her, but she's not a cat. So I have resorted to taking photos of wild cats, like this pretty little bobcat. I'm now counting the days until my trip to Brazil to photograph jaguars. #cats #wildlife

@DMTomas@mastodon.social That looks to me like a circa 1920's French clock by the maker Vedette. The dial marking is confusing though. H. Moser & Cie was a watch maker, not a clock maker. They could have been contracting with Vedette, but they didn't use the name "Hy Moser & Cie" until the 1980's, as far as I know.

If it were a straightforward Vedette in working condition, it would be worth a few hundred dollars.
