I'm here because I believe in software as a force for good in a not-so-good world.

Most toots in English, with occasional gobs of German.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu now that you've allowed a category of apps to work more seamlessly and securely on the dominating mobile OS, prevent the mobile OS from becoming a dictatorship where Google has the final say on who is allowed to make apps: @keepandroidopen@techhub.social And while we're at it, get rid of DRM and take @pluralistic@mamot.fr up on his idea to make Europe the disenshittifying hub for the world's technology. @openhomefoundation@fosstodon.org

Excuse me wtf? "We were thrilled to discover an impressively precise and technically accurate decision from the EU. [...] The report went down to details we only figured out by reading Android's source code ourselves." They anticipated Google would make people give up on their current voice assistant and mandated concurrent use of two different wake words? They even mandated sandboxing? You're telling me bureaucratic institutions can be competent and serve the people?! @openhomefoundation@fosstodon.org

@geffrey@id.geff.re @aboutsignal@mastodon.social that profile pic is great, did you design it yourself? I would love to steal it but when I tap on the preview I get a 404 :(

Hey @z3ntu@fosstodon.org, I heard the FP4 is getting software updates until 2028. I was wondering if you know whether the software updates will include an update to a modern kernel at some point? Looks like @calyxos@fosstodon.org might not be able to support it for much longer, as the EoL 4.19 kernel may not be upgradable to Android 17.

@crankylinuxuser@infosec.exchange @mozilla@mastodon.social @thunderbird@mastodon.online could you link to the Thunderbird ToS please? I'm only finding the privacy policy (which reads fine to me) and a Mozilla-wide ToS.

An age verification app's back end is arguably just as important as the front end. No word on that yet. And it goes without saying that nothing apart from the boolean "is user older than x" should be shared with a platform. Curious to see how this plays out. Platforms wanting age verification shouldn't have to rely on infamous contractors that leak data. But everyone is aware of the slippery slope: IDing everyone on the web isn't something we'll let happen without pushback. @EUCommission

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social If you must reply to individual threads yourself, you could probably save lots of time by having an evergreen section on your website dedicated to debunking FUD and just linking to that. There's little point in formulating individual responses on very similar topics repeatedly. Either a person is open to look at new information without prejudice, or they're not. You have more important work to do.. and you know it :P Not trying to be harsh, I want you guys to succeed!

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social Most other organizations (Wikipedia, Signal..) respond to FUD or backlash by making a blog post. This is then shared by the org a few times on their socials, and community members will of course also use it to counter FUD/backlash in the relevant threads.

We're aware it results in /e/ and Murena doubling down on attacks. We're also aware that it results in their supporters doubling down on attacks. These will be addressed with additional posts.

I.. don't know if attempting to fight fire with fire is a reasonable investment of the team's time. It's not your goal to find every instance of a false claim to debunk it, right?

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social It's great you're taking time to clear up factually incorrect claims, whether they're made out of maliciousness or naivety. Constructive community engagement is great! But please, for the love of god, this information only belongs A) in the threads where factually incorrect claims are being made and B) on your website in the FAQ section. I know it's not intuitive, but pushing conflict into everyone's face again and again makes your project seem *less* trustworthy, not more.
